Third Annual Big Fish Triathlon Set For June 6

DEWITTVILLE - The third annual Big Fish Triathlon will be held at 8 a.m., June 6 and will include a sprint distance to encourage newcomers to the swim, bike, and running sport.

The Big Fish Triathlon is the only triathlon on Chautauqua Lake, and is held at YMCA Camp Onyahsa in Dewittville. The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT), and is a total volunteer effort, which allows for all money raised to be donated to the Y Camp to benefit children and families, promote healthy lifestyle, and highlight the camp.

The Big Fish Triathlon is an intermediate (Olympic) distance - a .93-mile swim in a protected bay, a 24.8-mile bike ride and a 6.2-mile -run. Little Fish is a 400-meter swim, 12-mile bike, and 3.1-mile run. All races are professionally timed by RunHigh and events can be raced solo, or in relay teams of two or three people. The transition area and run venue provide fully stocked aid stations.

The focus of this triathlon is to provide racers with a well-organized and safe event, as well as great post-race food and festivities. Each racer receives gifts, including a technical T-shirt. Pottery prizes are provided by Bemus Point Pottery. Registration is on-line and early entry discounts are available until May 1. Individual Little Fish entry is $40., individual Big Fish is $70., relay Little Fish is $75., and relay Big Fish $135.
