YMCA Camp Onyahsa is well into its 117th year of serving the youth and families of our community through active outdoor programs. Overnight weekend sessions have been held each month for youth ages 5 – 12, and will continue to be offered through May.

This winter, site renovations were completed including upgrades to the Youth Fitness and Recreation Center and the Camp’s Teen Center. Most importantly, the Johnson Lodge was winterized and received six private bathrooms, which will make this double-cabin more appropriate for young campers in the summer, and for year-round participants.

Families will enjoy this lodge at Onyahsa’s other facilities in May during Family Camp weekend. This May 30 – 31 weekend is open to any family in the region; participants need not be YMCA members. It will include traditional programs including boating, archery, crafts, fishing, and just relaxing as a family group. All meals and activities are included.

Summer youth resident and day camps will begin during the second week in June, with a “Back to Back to the Future” theme, as Camp “revisits” the 1980s! Day Camp in the Woods runs weekly from June 15 - August 14, on a Monday through Friday schedule. This program is limited to 18 children ages 5 – 10, and includes traditional, fun camp activities plus a weekly field trip, lunches, and an overnight option on Thursdays.

Youth “Sleep Away” camp begins June 14 and runs weekly until August 15. This accredited program, for youth ages 7 -13 offers fantastic lakefront activities including boating, sports, arts, swimming, Nature, challenge course, hiking, campfires, skits, “Club Time,” and many more!

Participants ages 14-15 may join Onyahsa’s popular Teen Camp, which offers more autonomous activities that campers help to design. Participants ages 15-16 may register for the Camp’s Leadership Program, which trains future leaders for our community during reduced-tuition, two-week sessions.

Onyahsa and the Resource Center will again team-up to serve adults who have Developmental Disabilities in late August. The site will also be available for rentals by groups, and is ideal for rustic weddings, church retreats, family reunions, small conferences, and other group functions.

Youth monthly camps will recommence in October, and Onyahsa’s semi-formal Dinner Dance fundraiser, for adults, is tentatively scheduled for November 7.
