6th Annual Dinner Dance

November 13, 2007 | News

YMCA Camp Onyahsa held its sixth annual Harvest Dinner Dance on Saturday, November 3 at its beautifully restored 1938 Darrah Dining Hall, located directly on Chautauqua Lake in Dewittville. Over 150 people attended the gala affair that raised over $7,000 for the not-for-profit children’s program, and helped to celebrate the Camp’s historic mission and current service to the community. John “Jack” Wheeler was honored as the recipient of the YMCA’s 2007 Paul B. Sullivan Lifetime Service Award. Mark Eckendorf, YMCA CEO, said of Jack, “His exemplary 25 years as the executive director of the YMCA laid the groundwork for all that the Y is now. The YMCA is indebted to Jack for his outstanding years of service and I am so pleased to be able to recognize him in this manner.”

The evening featured live music performed by The Ledgens, as well as dancing, a catered dinner, and raffle of a beautiful Amish oak rocker donated by Tim and Debbie Piotrowski and hand painted and finished steamer trunk donated by Skid Proctor. The sole sponsor of the event was the Judith J. Anderson Family Foundation. According to Jon O’Brian, Camp Director, “at this time of the year we give thanks, and we are very appreciative for the attendee’s and sponsor’s support of this annual signature event; as it enables us to better serve the youth and families of our community.”
